I think the reason more people don’t do it is they don’t realise that these deals are out there, and they also haven’t considered how simply booking a hotel for the night turns staying in your own town or city into a mini holiday; A while ago, whilst on the tube with Miss Travel Addict on route to one of our romantic London hotel breaks, I bumped into an old work colleague. After chatting for a little bit he asked where we were going. When I said we were off to a hotel in Central London he looked at me as if I was crazy…”but you live here, why are you doing that?!” Half an hour later I was standing in a fabulous marble atrium lobby with a huge fireplace dominating one corner, listening to the strains of classical music echoing in the air and watching the lights dancing off the molten chocolate of the Thames at night time, trying to decide whether to use the hotel’s sauna or Jacuzzi first! All this luxury for the paltry sum of £40 per person. The next day, we just strolled across the Thames into the heart of the Southbank and spent the day wandering around exploring, and drinking far too much wine at Vinopolis. My colleague later told me that he ended up watching “Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway” and eating lukewarm curry that night, and spent most of the next day bored at home. He’s now a convert to the cheap luxury hotel break and hasn’t looked back since!

Miss Travel Addict and I probably book ourselves into a 4 or 5 star hotel once a month, and although we don’t even leave our own city, it totally feels like we’ve had a holiday, and we always end up feeling really refreshed! And to be honest, £40 is probably the minimum we’d end up spending on a night out in London anyway considering the prices of drinks in London bars!

However, they do tell you what star rating the hotel has, and also where it is located and what facilities the room and hotel has. You can usually work out what hotel it is by a little creative use of Google with the information provided! Once you confirm your booking, you will be emailed with the name of the hotel you are staying in immediately.

Just pick an area with fun things to do the next day and away you go! As you will see, there are secret hotel deals in great spots like Hyde Park, Southbank, Bloomsbury, Docklands, Piccadilly and Kensington and all for unbelievably cheap prices considering what you get! The deals aren’t just limited to London either, Lastminute.com have secret hotel deals all over the UK and Europe too, so whether you fancy trying one out in your local town or going further afield I can’t recommend it enough! The deals change virtually every day, so it’s worth checking back often for any gems that appear.
